Allworth Press publishes business and self-help books for artists, designers, photographers, writers, and film and performing artists, as well as books about business, money, and the law for the general public. The press also publishes classic and contemporary critical writing on art and graphic design.
Allworth Press celebrates its fifteenth anniversary in 2004. Founded in March 1989 by author, attorney,
and artistsą rights advocate Tad Crawford, the press began as a one-man operation with the publication of a revised
edition of Crawford's classic Legal Guide for the Visual Artist in Fall 1989. Ten more titles followed in 1990,
offering information about marketing, promotion, pricing, copyright,
contracts, health and safety, and much more. From these modest beginnings,
Allworth Press today publishes 40 titles annually and has a full-time staff of ten.

Striking out in a new direction in 2001, Crawford initiated the Helios Press imprint with the mission of publishing books that helpus understand ourselves and the world around us. The initial goal is to build a list of popular psychology, self-help, and current events titles. Titles to date include The Psychology of War and The Medium, the Mystic, and the Physicist by Lawrence LeShan, How to Heal by Jeff Kane, MD, Healing with Nature by Susan Scott. Allworth Press continues to expand. The niches in which it publishes have grown toinclude not just art, graphic design, and photography, but also writing, performing arts, music, film, television, interior design, and architecture. By the end of 2004, more than 250 titles will be in print. Allworth Press is constantly seeking to publish books that meet the needs of creative professionals in these areas. Suggestions and insights from readers are welcomed as an aid in determining the best book and authors for the future.
